La Crosse Times Year In Review – February

LA CROSSE, WIS — Elvis Explosion officials are reeling after a series of small explosions rocked the La Crosse Center early Friday afternoon. No event attendees or Elvi were seriously hurt in the explosion, though thirteen were taken to Gundersen Hospital for evaluation and minor injuries.

Held every September in La Crosse, the Elvis Explosion seeks to unite diehard Elvis fans with Elvis impersonators for a three-day extravaganza of live music, dancing, and food. This year’s event may now be cut short. 

The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time, though local authorities believe the massive influx of dance gyrations may have loosened electrical wiring and weakened one of the La Crosse Center’s gas lines.

“I don’t know what happened in there,” said one attendee. “I just heard a whole lot of shakin’ going on.”

Suspicious minds were quick to call foul play, but La Crosse Police have ruled out any criminal activity through an official statement to the public late Friday.

Though most Elvi left the building, event officials remain hopeful that regularly scheduled events can resume Saturday evening.
