LA CROSSE, WIS — Springtime is upon us and with the season change will come new snap stories. According to sources however, one story in particular is somehow both stunningly impressive and stunningly mundane at the same time.
Snapchat user Dane Sanchez described how he first felt upon viewing his friend’s story.
“I don’t know why I kept watching,” Sanchez said. “I think it’s because the quarantine has me just watching pretty much anything I can get my eyes on at this point.”
However, it wasn’t just anything Sanchez began watching. The story, posted by hipster and longboarding enthusiast Jordan Dooshuhbaguh, was a non-stop video totaling a full day’s worth of time showing two feet riding a longboard.
“It was just as boring as it sounds,” Sanchez said. “But I could not look away. They didn’t even pan up to show where they were, or anything interesting that they were passing by. Just feet! And I watched every damn second of it.”
The video joins a slew of hipster Snapchat stories users characterize as “boring” or “wasting their time” but in fact make up most of the content hosted by the platform: Feet longboarding, sunsets/sunrises shot from the top of a parking garage, cats existing, coffee existing, low slow panning over very simple dishes of food with the caption “Somebody wife me up, LOL”, etc.
“I know when I jump on, I’m essentially going to see the same thing each time, I know that,” added Sanchez, “but what else is there to do? I finished Netflix already. This is what’s left.”
According to Snapchat, even despite being able to skip Dooshubaguh’s story, statistics showed that 98.7% of users continued through the entirety of the 24 hour video anyway.
