LA CROSSE, WIS — Winter has been charged with two counts of assault and one count of battery stemming from a December through February incident involving La Crosse Street, which runs East and West along the UW-La Crosse campus.
According to the criminal complaint filed in La Crosse County Circuit Court Wednesday, Winter physically assaulted the popular street, leaving severe cracking, potholes, and tattered edges, all of which are visible today. The street is also seeking damages for emotional distress.
Mayer Severson, attorney for the beleaguered thoroughfare, said La Crosse Street is focused on recovery and wants to move on, but Winter should be held accountable for its actions.
“What Winter did was egregious and despicable, and we hope justice will be served to the fullest extent of the law,” Severson said.
The La Crosse Times will continue to monitor this story for further developments. In the meantime, Severson has asked that residents respect La Crosse Street’s privacy and recovery timeline and consider using Badger Street or Campbell Road instead.
